Description

ONE OF A KIND, SLOW PROCESS PRODUCT

Intricately hand-embroidered vintage Kantha quilt by the craftsmen of ROOPANTARAN
(Approximated Size) : 150 x 220 cms TWIN Size Kantha

REVERSIBLE KANTHA

PROCESS:

These kanthas are sent to the women's cluster of roopantaran for construction and quilting. Five to six patches of soft vintage sari cloths are stitched together to form a patchwork running fabric. Two layers of equal-width patchwork fabrics are piled together and hand-embroidered to form a quilt or tapestry resulting in a multicolored patchwork kantha throw/bedspread.  It usually takes a group of 4-5 women around seven days to complete a VINTAGE SARI KANTHA. These kanthas are finally washed and sun-dried for usage.

GENUINE VINTAGE:
At times you may find some patches on these vintage saris, which is a process of restoration and is a mark of genuine VINTAGE.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT
For rural women, Kantha Embroidery is a wish-granting jewel as it makes them self-dependent. With the help of regular work and the remuneration earned, they are able to earn as good as their husbands, provide good education to their children, and save money for rainy days.
We show you their inspiring untold stories of perseverance where with proper skill training and motivation they create some unbelievably fine intricate thread works on VINTAGE SARI.

AMAZING FIND: The story of Kantha goes back to the time of the Buddha and his disciples who were said to wear Kantha-embroidered recycled patches on their robes.
