HOW TO MAKE A TABLECLOTH AND HOW MUCH FABRIC I NEED

Materials

- Tape measure.

- Cloth scissors.

- Pins, marker and sewing machine.

- Cloth for Tablecloths

TYPE OF FABRIC: You can choose the fabric you like the most by choosing from an exclusive catalog of fabrics at Roopantran that are used for tablecloths and receive it in your home.

Once you have chosen the fabric you want for your tablecloth, you should have some considerations in mind to know what quantity you need to buy.

- The length of the tablecloth will depend on how much you want the table legs to be seen. If you have small children, dogs or cats it is advisable that they are not too long to prevent them from hanging or pulling on them.

- On the other hand, the amount of fabric needed will depend on whether the table is square, rectangular, oval or round. In the first three cases, take the measures of the table (width and length) and we recommend adding between 10 and no more than 30 cm of fall from each side, to avoid what we mentioned in the previous paragraph, and add 2.5 cm of each side, as a resource of seams to make the ring.

For example, if the table of my table measures 1.50 m. by 0.90 m. and I want the drop of my tablecloth to be 20 cm, I will calculate:

Fabric-Width = Table-Width + 2 x Table-Drop + 2 x Additional

-Fabric-Width-Wheel = 0, 90 m + 2 x 0.20 m. + 2 x 0.025 m. = 1.35 m.

Fabric-Length = Table-Length + 2 x Tablecloth-Drop + 2 x Additional

-Fabric-Length Wheel = 1.50 m. + 2 x 0.20 m. + 2 x 0.025 m. = 1.95 m.

So if the cloth is 1.50 m. wide, with exactly 1.95 m. I can make my tablecloth.

Another way of doing the accounts is using the Trap-Calculator, it does this same account for you by entering the table measures. The Calculator is also useful for the case where the table + the fall are wider than the width of the fabric. In this case if or if you are going to need to make unions, with the calculator, we will give you the fabric you need to optimize the purchase and without doing the accounts.

Round Table

In the event that the table is round, make the same calculations but starting from a square. For example if the round table measures 1.00 m. in diameter and I want 20 cm. of fall all around + 2.5 cm of seam allowance all around, I need a square of 1.45 m. x 1.45 m.

Now yes, once chosen the size we need, we will perform the following steps:

1 - CUT THE FABRIC

Cut the fabric in its proper shape and measure it to our table, as explained previously.

If the tablecloth is round, we will have to make a circular cut! A very simple technique to do it is to fold the fabric in 4 and fixing a cord in the corner that joins the center of the panel and we hold a pencil at the other end, we can draw a quarter of a circle, where we can then make the cut.

2 - PREPARE FABRIC TO MAKE THE FOLDING

Place the fabric with its right side down, fold in 2.5 cm of the ring and mark with pins all around our tablecloth.

3 - SEW FOLDING

Finally, carefully sew through the center of our inner seam allowance, for a better finish.

4 - IF YOU DON'T KNOW SEWING, PUT ON THE WHEEL OF THE FABRIC

In the case that you prefer to make the tablecloth without seams, you can perform the same procedure by placing a strip of  thermo adhesive interlining (2 cm wide approx) inside the I roll and fix it with iron (always paying attention to the instructions for its use).

and ready!!! You take a picture of your kitchen or living room at the table and tag @roopantaranindia on Instagram.

EXTRA TIP: If the tablecloth generates spikes on the 4 tips of the square or rectangular table, you can cut the small excess triangles on the edge of the tablecloth of the 4 corners, and join their sides with an inner seam, so that the tablecloth fits "custom" on table. This is ideal for children's tables or food tables too, and if the tablecloth is made with a much better plastic cloth, to avoid any type of accident on the table.
