The weather in Jaipur during the month of May jumps up and scorches to a maximum of 48 degree, which is extremely and deadly hot and dry.     It is during this dry weather that the Hand Block Printing process shines at its best. The dry and hot air quickly oxidizes the primary colour and brings out the latent hues with a shining lustre. Thanks to the artisans of Roopantaran who toil their sweat to bring out their creative best during this time....

Investing in a girl child is rare among many lower class Indian communities. It is presumed that a girl child will eventually get married at a later stage, therefore it is advised to engage her in activities like housekeeping etc.We have, however, seen a major shift in the thought process of the artisans of Roopantaran, who are eager to get their girl child a good source of education and proper nourishment. One of our artisan's daughter came to visit us with her mom. Her name is Asha, which means hope....

Kantha Stoles

KanthaNew Kantha Silk Stoles have arrived. Intricately Hand Embroidered by the karigars of Bengal Kantha, these beautifully crafted fabrics are a steal. Kantha is a form of embroidery often practiced by rural women. The traditional form of Kantha embroidery was done with soft dhotis and saris, with a simple running stitch along the edges. Depending on the use of the finished product they were known as Lepkantha or SujniKantha.

Masala Chai ( Indian Hot Tea )

MASALA CHAI1.       In a mortar, crush the cloves, cardamom pods and cinnamon, or use a coffee grinder.2.       Transfer the crushed spices to a small saucepan, add the water, ginger, and pepper and bring to a boil.3.       Remove the pan from the heat, cover and let steep for 5 minutes.4.       Add the milk and sugar to the pan and bring to a boil.5.       Remove from the heat and add the tea.6.       Cover and let steep for 3 minutes.7.       Stir the chai, then strain it into a warmed teapot or directly into teacups.8.       Enjoy!Winters is the season when there can be no other refreshing drink like a hot cup of Masala ChaiIt's the infamous tea-break, that we all talk about in India. Whenever we meet people, we are invited over a cup of hot Chai (pronounced CHA-E).Tea-breaks are infamous because of the taboo they carry ( wastage of precious time).Many a time it has happened that I am offered tea at a vendor's place, but unfortunately, someone forgets to get it made. Since it is considered a disrespect to disregard a tea offer once taken, one has to wait ..and wait till finally, the tea arrives. And when the not so hot tea arrives, one has to drink it with due patience, just like the tea-tasters in Darjeeling.Did you know that our Hon able Prime Minister Narendra Modi began life as a tea vendor at a railway station in Gujarat, and today is the Prime Minister of India?...

Ajrakh QUEEN INDIGO Kantha Throws

Ajrakh, the Arabic word for Indigo dye, is a unique form of hand block printing done in the interiors of Gujarat. Ajrak craft products are made with natural dyes.The entire production of the products include both vegetable dyes and mineral dyes. Indigo is key dye.Ajrakh artisans use the age old Arabian geometric motif patterns in their creations. Starting with a kiss

1st April is April Fools day, so they say, but I was enlightened by someone as to why it is called so.Well it suits the Indians well enough because April 1st is the start of the new financial year for us.This means that after paying our taxes to the government, we start all over again .....lol. But I started the April month with a Kissssss.......muah which parked on the cheeks of my neighbors son, Arnav. Cute kid though much chatty , yak yak you know . April is also the start of new school sessions, and Arnav has upgraded from tiny tots to 1st standard. Much more about Arnav when he breaks a thing or two..
